FileXChange, Transfer files between devices, PCs and phones with Android

FileXChange is an application available on the Apple AppStore & the Anroid Market Place for over a month. This app allows us to transfer files between our devices, between devices and Android terminal or even between our device and a computer. Once installed in your terminal the application is a web server that can connect to any computer directly from a browser and which can upload files in the terminal or you can download the existing ones.

The application works both through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but for Wi-Fi networks is necessary for both of these devices to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Copying files in our terminal and thus in the application, can be done using the File Sharing feature in iTunes, all through it you are being able to copy files from the terminal. The application must be installed only on your device to send/accept files, anyone else can connect through the browser to your IP terminal.

Some of it's features:
  • An easy-to-use interface: awesome graphics and a great video tutorial for beginners
  • The file transfer can be made via Wi-Fi or via Bluetooth
  • The files transfer is done to and from major operating systems like Android
  • Can protect your data with the help of a password
  • Has a powerful high-speed transfer

  • File formats that the application supports:
  • Text files (.Doc, .Docx, .Txt), excel files, PDF
  • Numbers
  • Pages
  • .ppt for PowerPoint
  • Most of the image, audio and video formats.

Version 1.2 was released just a few days ago in the App Store and brings the ability to send pictures directly from your photo library of your terminal, but also to rename, delete or move files from the terminal. Developers have improved the system to send files to other terminals, but the rules explained above are still valid.

iMobsters Game Review

WARNING: on 5/20/2010 we became aware that the make of this game (Storm8) may be harvesting personal data from the iPhone. While, we are not yet sure if this is true we caution users against using this application. You can read more about this here: Storm8 stealing users personal data you can also read this more detailed article about storm8 stealing data here.

Overall game rating:

An exciting and somewhat challenging game iMobsters fun starts degrading at around level 50 or earlier. While the developers are consistently adding new features to maintain the user base there is just limited potential in a text based game. While a good game to play to kill some time I wouldn't consider the game a whole lot of fun. Additionally, it's challenging aspects can for the most part be easily come by certain strategies.

Pros:
  • Various strategies you can develop to come out on top
  • Various bonuses for completing missions
  • Growing user base
  • Frequent game updates with new weapons, missions, armor, and other updated game elements

  • Cons:
  • Users can buy their way to the top and easily over power you.
  • Very repetitive
  • Text based so limited graphics obviously... gets kinda lame after a while.

  • Pandora iPhone app review

    Overall app rating:

An overall excellent app. There's nothing greater then listening to unlimited music on your iphone for free. If you have the $36 a year for Pandora One I would highly recommended it. With no advertisments it's just you and your music 100% of the time. I can honestly say upgrading to Pandora One was one of the best investments I ever made. It also saves me money from having to purchase songs from iTunes and I rarely get bored because, I can just keep creating new stations. It's also fun and interesting because you can learn more about why you like music as well as discovering new artists that you never heard of.

    Pros:
  • The Pandora One version has absolutely no ads and offers higher quality audio.
  • Has coverflow option so you can read about artists and the song
  • Option to bookmark artist or sond
  • Option to buy song from iTunes
  • Option to email the station

  • Cons:
  • ad supported for free version
  • unlike the desktop app Pandora One for the iphone does not at this time have the sleep function for repeat songs
  • Occasionally song and disc cover image do not match up
  • Occasionally cuts a song short

  • shazam iPhone app review

    Overall app rating:

Shazam is a wonderful app with a high rate of success in my expereience. It has come in handy countless times when my friendss and I were in the car and not sure what a particular song was called. Taking only several seconds to identify a song Shazam is quick and easy to use. I highly recommend this app for all music lovers as well as the occasional listener.

    Pros:
  • free
  • Has coverflow option so you can read about artists and the song
  • Option to sort tagged songs by letter for artist / song title as well as tag date
  • Provides some extra information about the song discovered
  • Option to purchase song
  • Option to watch youtube video of song
  • Option to tweet tag
  • Option to send song name to a friends email, view tag location, artiswt biography, discography, as well as take / attach a photo to a song so you can preserve the memorey of when you heard it

  • Cons:
  • ad supported

  • Type n Talk - iPod version

    Overall app rating:

Pros: Fairly amusing. There is not much to it. It is pretty simple. Once you type something in, and press "talk," you hear what you typed, in a Microsoft Sam-esque voice.

    Cons: No practical use really.

Summary: Unless you are in middle school and playing a practical joke, there isn't much to use this one for. Good for a cheap laugh. That's about it.

    Stumbleupon - iPod version

    Overall app rating:

Pros: Based on topics you select, this app finds webpages that pertain to your interests. Much like Pandora radio, Stumbleupon allows you to select thumbs up or thumbs down to the page. By doing this, the app selects pages your more likely to like next time. In addition, the interface is pretty simple. Besides the thumbs up or thumbs down, there is also an option to share the pages on social networks and see other viewer's comments.

Cons: Not as good of a browsing experience as it is if you use the Stumbleupon app on firefox. A lot of times the Stumbleupon page could be a photo, so the small display isn't as good for viewing as it is on a computer.

Summary: Great app overall. Good way to learn more about the things you are interested in.

    iHandy Flashlight - iPod version

    Overall app rating:

    Pros: Does provide light.

Cons: Not really any different than your current iphone or ipod touch light up display screen. It is not any brighter.

Summary: Not really handy as the name implies.

    Remote - iPod version

    Overall app rating:

Pros: Works like a remote control. Allows you to control itunes with iphone, ipod touch, or ipad.

Cons: need an itunes account in order to stream it.

Summary: Nice app. Simple to use and convient.

    Flud - iPod version

    Overall app rating:

Pros: offers a quick and convenient alternative to browsing your favorite news websites by allowing access to a horizontal scroll screen with multiple news feeds. Also it features an icon with two arrows which allows you to expand the current page.

Cons: Has an option to "love" a page. This is the equivalent to many other apps option to put a thumbs up in order to refine your preferences. In this case, there isn't much of a purpose for the "love" option other than it saves the pages as a favorite on the main Flud page. Although the idea isn't nessacarily bad, the format and the phasing may throw you off at first. Other than this, Flud just is not original. There are many apps like this.

Summary: Descent app, but nothing revolutionary.

    Mystarbucks - iPod version

    Overall app rating:

Pros: able to browse menu... sort of.

Cons: pretty pointless. The value of the app suppose to be so you can save your favorite drinks as a list. Even if you are a starbucks addict, do you really need a list? Even if a list is nessacary, why bother with the app. Looks like starbucks just jumped on the bandwagon here. I guess they figure feel advertising for them. As for browsing the menu, it only shows some of the drinks, which makes this app even more useless if that's possible.

Summary: Starbucks = good. Starbucks app = bad. There is no point to it. Don't waste your time downloading this.

IMDB movies and tv app - iPod version

    Overall app rating:

Pros: easy way to view movie times in your area. You can either use your area code or the "current location" option in order for the app to find your cinema. You could also see when your favorite show is on TV. In addition, this app includes all the standard IMDB site information such the actors, plot summary, when it came out, etc.

Cons: Couldn't get the "current location" option to work. I needed to put in my area code.

Summary: Good app to use if you are on the run and want to view show times.
